Existing Latin Vocabulary and Words for Animals

The first thing I would like to do is to give you some links to existing Latin vocabularies already published on the Internet. I always try not to plagiarize and to give credit where credit is due. I am not always successful, however; so, please forgive me and allow me to make mistakes as I would allow you. I also don’t believe in reinventing the wheel. If someone has already done the work, then we may use that as is, or we may use it as a point of departure for our own works. One never truly works in a vacuum without being influenced by others.

The following are links to some rather good new Latin vocabulary. I like the fact that the vocabulary appears in many Western languages, but I would prefer to also see translations of the vocabulary into other languages that are widely spoken such as Mandarin, Hindi, Arabic (a personal favorite), Japanese (for my cousin Victor L. Hazen), Russian (for my friends M. Rigoberto Esquivel and Barry S. Olsen), and others of the 20 most widely spoken languages in the world. This way we can begin by reaching 95% of the world population. If you would care to translate these vocabularies, please let their author know or let me know.

The following vocabularies are found at Ephemeris, a wonderful on-line Latin newspaper cum magazine. The author of these lists is Nicolaus Groß, also known as Leo Latinus. Please check out both of these web sites as they are abundant in Latin vocabulary relevant to our age and time as well as the Classics.

There are other rather good vocabularies at this site, but I will post links to them on another occasion. In the meantime, I believe there is much here to be ruminated, to be digested, and to be internalized. Please enjoy Latin; but, always remember to cite sources; give credit where credit is due; to thank those who have come before you and made it easier for both you and me; and, always, always prepare for those who follow you.
